Research Projects

2015-2018. Work/Life Balance and Ageing Populations Research Project. Lead Researcher Prof Patricia Mohammed

2016. Work life Balance and Ageing Data collection including interviews and focus groups undertaken at various homes for the aged and other facilities for the senior citizens.

2016. Work life Balance and Ageing Expert interviews were also conducted at various workplaces and journals were completed as part of a time use survey.  This included employees of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) and an online survey was administered to the UWI community.

2016. Work life Balance and Ageing Professor Patricia Mohammed and Dr Cheryl-Ann Boodram presented at the Equal Opportunity Commission Seminar “Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination in National Budgeting” at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port of Spain.

2016. Work life Balance and Ageing. An invaluable partnership was garnered through a Memorandum of Understanding between The UWI and the Societe D'economie Mixte D'amenagement De La Ville Du Lamentin/Company of Mixed Economy of Management (SEMAVIL) effective on 25 November 2016 for 36 months; this collaboration has attracted significant counterpart funding and expands the reach of the current project regionally.

2018. The “Connecting the Dots: Work Life Balance. Ageing”. Conference was hosted by The UWI Research Development Impact Fund, in collaboration with the Institute of Gender and Development Studies and the Social Work Unit of the Behavioural Science Department, Faculty of Social Science on April 26–27, 2018 at the Teaching and Learning Complex, UWI, St. Augustine.

2016. Conference presentation “Unsilencing Dementia: Living, Working and Ageing with Dignity” by Renee Cozier with Dr. Paula Morgan at the Department of Behavioral Sciences Social Work Conference, “Promoting the Dignity and Worth of People” held at The UWI St Augustine, March 2016.

2015. Patricia Mohammed and Renee Cozier presented, “Literature Insights on Work/Life Balance and Ageing and significance for population dynamics in Trinidad and Tobago” at the conference Population Issues and Dynamics in T&T: Theory, Practice and Policy for Post 2015 SDGs on January 9th 2015. 

2015. UNDP Subjective Well-Being Regional Report. The IGDS in collaboration with the UNDP conducted a series of interviews and focus group discussions in north, south and central Trinidad on subjective well-being.  The final report formed part of the UNDP Regional Human Development Report 2016.  The Final Report was submitted by Ms Sommer Hunte, September 23rd. 

2014 Women and Men Reconciling Work and Family Seminar. Led by Ms Patricia Hackett this seminar aimed to discuss the role of the State, workers’ and employers’ organizations in support of workers with family responsibilities; in light of International Instruments and Agreements such as the Convention and Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women – 1979 (CEDAW), and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995).

2013. Pamela Rodney – PhD Upgrade Seminar, Interdisciplinary Gender Studies – ‘Caregiving for HIV positive persons with alternative sexual orientations in Trinidad and Tobago: A review of current procedures, preliminary findings and analysis’, on Monday, August 29th 2011 – conducted by Dr. Piya Pangsapa, Dr. Charleston Thomas, Dr. Gabrielle Hosein and Ms. Jeanne Roach-Baptiste. Upgrade to PhD was approved.

2016. December 7, 2016 World AIDS Day, Performance and Conversation with Charleston Thomas. One of the primary objectives of the initiative is to ignite in viewers or participants a desire to be change agents with respect to care for AIDS and other terminally ill patients from/in marginalized communities.
