Outreach | Workshops

2018-2020. Gender Focal Point Training/Capacity Building. The Gender Affairs Division of the Office of the Prime Minister, Gender and Children has established over 22 Gender Focal Points throughout the public service.  The IGDS has undertaken a series of gender training workshops of Gender Focal Points throughout the public service. The project entailed a series of capacity building workshops for Gender Focal Points throughout the public service. Prof Mohammed led the 1st session.  The follow-up sessions were designed and led by Dr. Deborah McFee.

2017-2020. CSOs for Good Governance – European Union Grant. The IGDS was a co-applicant on this project which consist of a consortium of seven (7) Civil Society Organizations (United Way Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT), Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI), Women’s Institute for Alternative Development (WINAD, Veni Apwann (VA), Network of Trinidad and Tobago for the Advancement of Women (Network) and Environment Tobago. The objective goal of this project is to catalyze transformation to a more environmentally sustainable, socially just, inclusive, accountable and resilient model of development and governance through supporting the effective involvement of civil society organizations (CSOs) in implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in Trinidad and Tobago

2019. Gender Responsive Budgeting Pilot with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Researchers: Dr. Gabrielle Hosein and Tricia Basdeo. The main goal was to provide a gendered analysis of the national budget process and its implications for peace, security and empowerment within households, highlighting how the national budget process and budgetary allocations have differential and inequitable impact on women, men, girls and boys.

2017. Pre-Budget Capacity Building Workshop designed to deepen the content of the scorecard research project i.e. to identify relevant sectors to inform data sets and to solicit the needs and roles of partner organizations in the scorecard project. 2017.

2011. Gender and Development Training in Belize. In September 2010, the Belize Women’s Department approached the Unit to secure training from the IGDS for a UNIFEM-funded Gender and Development training workshop for their staff. The SAU agreed to provide the context for the training design and plan to complete the training by end of May 2011. Lead Consultant: Ms Deborah McFee and Mrs. Nana Oye Hesse-Baine participated and led the IGDS/UNDP Capacity Building Workshop for the Women’s Bureau, Belize City, Belize, September 26th to September 30th 2011.

 

Consultancies | Partnerships

2019. Gender Mainstreaming in the Caribbean for UNECLAC. Researchers: Dr. Gabrielle Hosein and Ms. Tricia Basdeo. The overall objective of the consultancy was to prepare a paper that provides an assessment of how Caribbean countries are mainstreaming gender in national development planning. 2019.

2011 . BVI National Gender Policy, UNDP Communities of Practice: Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and BVI. Consultation for the Development of the Bermuda Department of Human Affairs

2011. In March 2011, the Bermudian Government, Department of Human Affairs approached the Unit to secure support/ collaboration in establishing a Gender Bureau or Dept. of Women’s Affairs. Lead Consultants: Prof. Patricia Mohammed, Prof. Jane Parpart and Dr. Deborah McFee

 

Professional | Public Service

2012. Professor Patricia Mohammed served as Gender Peer Reviewer of the Draft of the Caribbean Human Development Report 2012: Human Development and the Shift to Better Citizen Security of the United Nations Development Programme, Caribbean Office.

2011-2012. Dr. Piya Pangsapa serves as Cabinet Appointed Committee Representative to the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child Development for the National Policy on Gender and Development of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, December 2011 – April 2012
