Biography

Muhammad Saajid Hosein is an MPhil candidate and a Research Assistant at the IGDS. He currently serves as the Coordinator for the Caribbean Review of Gender Studies (CRGS), the  open access journal of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies. All intersecting with gender, Saajid's main areas of interest are Islam in the Caribbean, Indo-Caribbean culture and history, and student movements and activism.

Research

Thesis
  • Muhammad Saajid Hosein's MPhil Thesis explores Indo-Trinidadian Muslim Masculinity. It traces the history of the Indo-Muslim community in Trinidad, looking at the relevant social changes and transformations that impact gender relations.

  • June 2026 – "Disrupting Boundaries, Negotiating Belonging: Indo-Muslim Men at the Crossroads of Faith, Sexuality and Ethnicity in Trinidad." Presented at the 50th Annual CSA conference in Kingston, Jamaica.
