The OUP Handbook on Transnational Feminist Movements: Knowledge, Power and Social Change, is an encyclopedic collection of 40 essays be feminist scholars and activists globally. It aimed to set out the historical, political, economic and social contexts in which transnational feminist movements that have emerged and burgeoned on the world stage since the 1970s to 2012 and to record the contributions made by transnational feminist movements to global knowledge building, policy and social change.

2012. Special Issue of the Caribbean Review of Gender Studies (CRGS) was published online May 31st 2012. This was Issue 6 of the CRGGS, entitled Indo-Caribbean Feminisms: Charting Crossings in Geography, Discourse and Politics. Guest Editors are Gabrielle Hosein and Lisa Outar.

2018. CARISCC Established Scholars' Workshop on Caribbean In /Securities and Creativity at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, on Tuesday 16 January. Paper presented: “Popular Pedagogies and Precarity: Lessons from a Decade of Consciousness-raising in the Caribbean”- Dr Gabrielle Hosein 

2017. The IGDS in collaboration with the Department of Geography hosted the Symposium titled, “Indigenous Geographies and Caribbean Feminisms: Common Struggles Against Global Capitalism”. This initiative, led to a co-edited collection by Gabrielle Hosein and Levi Gahman, from the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Food and Agriculture, which brought together scholars and Indigenous women activists from Belize, Suriname, Guyana, Dominica, Trinidad and St. Vincent.

2015. Professor Patricia Mohammed presented “A Vindication for Indo-Caribbean Feminism” presented at The Indo-Caribbean Feminist Thought: Beyond Negotiations Research Symposium. Organized by Gabrielle Hosein and Lisa Outar, IGDS, The UWI, St Augustine. November 5th – 6th.

2015. “Fearless Politics: The Life and Times of Hazel Brown” Two-day conference held in honour of Hazel Brown.
Opening at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad featured Keynote Address by Dr. Rosina Wiltshire and address by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Second day held at the Teaching and Learning Complex, UWI St Augustine. Chair of Conference Committee Dr. Gabrielle Hosein, supported by graduate students Sommer Hunte and Tivia Collins. Mar 27-28, 2015.

2015. Hosein, Gabrielle, presented Paper Title “Dougla Poetics and Politics in Indo‑Caribbean Feminist Thought” on panel titled “Mixedness in Trinidad and Tobago: Epistemological Reflections and Identity Politics” at the Caribbean Studies Association Conference, New Orleans, USA, May 27, 2015.

2014. Dr Angelique Nixon presented on “Erotic Justice and Caribbean Feminist Organizing for Gender and Sexual Equality” at the National Women’s Studies Association Conference, Puerto Rico, November 16 

2013. Dr Gabriel Hosein presentated on ‘Reflections on Indo-Caribbean Feminisms’ Panel, Caribbean Studies Association Conference, Grenada, June 5th. 

2012. Dr. Hosein, Prof. Reddock, Prof. Mohammed, Honor Ford-Smith, Ms. Kendra Pitt and   Ms. Marielle Barrow were participants for ‘Issues and Challenges facing Women’s Activists Past and Present’ as part of public dialogue between York University (Faculty of Environmental Studies) and UWI, 2012. 

 

Outreach | Workshops

2018. Professor Patricia Mohammed of IGDS in collaboration with Alma Jordan Library presented,“Insights into our Treasures” at a Special Lunchtime Seminar hosted at the Alma Jordan Library on the Making of Feminisms in the Caribbean. 2018.

2014. Making of Caribbean Feminisms Conversation Series- Interview and Discussion with Tara Ramoutar, feminist social activist.  Ms Ramoutar was interviewed by Deborah McFee as part of a Special Lunch Time Seminar at the IGDS.
