RBL Pan Minors

What started out as Republic Bank’s Pan Minors Music Literacy Scholarship Programme in 1995 has evolved into Republic Bank RightStart Pan Minors Music Literacy Scholarship Programme. The programme was initially designed by Dr. Anne Osborne and Mr. Satanand Sharma at the behest of Republic Bank to provide a Music Literacy educational programme for winners of the Junior Pan Minors Steelband Competition which it sponsored. The Bank has embraced the programme in its Power to Make a Difference social investment programme.

At present the annual July-August programme is coordinated by graduates of the DCFA – Michelle Amoroso (overall coordinator in Trinidad) and Anthony Moore (in Tobago). Each year, over 120 students (10 – 17 years old) from elementary and secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago participate in a three-week intensive programme that provides 30 contact hours in two classes – Theory/Aural and Sight Reading on Pan. Some of these students have eventually furthered their study in Music at DCFA in the certificate and degree programmes in music.
