This course is part one of a programme that seeks to introduce students to the study of the Mandarin Chinese language. It will expose students to some aspects of Chinese culture and daily life. It is intended for a learner who has never formally studied Chinese, or who has no prior knowledge of the language.
It covers topics that will enable students to develop an ability to communicate in basic situations related to their personal lives, particularly talking about themselves, about family, expressing dates and times, indicating likes and dislikes, and describing a visit to a friend’s home.

This course is part one of a programme that seeks to introduce students to the study of the French language. It will expose students to some aspects of francophone culture and is designed for learners with no prior, formal academic knowledge of French. The course covers topics that will enable students to develop the ability to communicate in French in situations relating to their personal lives, specifically in contexts such as school or work.
The course focuses on the development of the four predominant skills involved in language learning (speaking, listening, reading and writing). Students will also be introduced to the fundamental courtesies that French-speaking people expect users of the language to know, and the concept of learner autonomy.

The ability to communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries has become more important than ever. Advances in technology, increasing migration opportunities and greater access to travel are truly making the world a global village, bringing us into contact with people from distant lands and new cultures. The purpose of this course is therefore to help students expand their linguistic and cultural awareness as well as develop an understanding of their own language and culture by studying Japanese.

This course is part one of a programme that seeks to introduce students to the study of the Spanish language. It seeks to help students gain a level of proficiency in Spanish so that they can have access to new linguistic, communicative and cultural perspectives and ways of thinking of one of the most widely spoken languages in the Caribbean region, Latin America, and the world. It is designed for learners with no prior, formal academic knowledge of Spanish.
The course covers topics that will enable students to develop the ability to communicate in Spanish in situations relating to their personal lives. It focuses on the development of the four predominant skills involved in language learning (speaking, listening, reading and writing). Students will also be introduced to various cultural aspects of the language and the concept of learner autonomy.
