The Japanese Language Speech Contest is a highly anticipated event among students of Japanese and other Asian languages at the CLL. Contest prizes include tablets, free courses at the CLL, Japanese textbooks, JLPT exercise books, restaurant vouchers and more.

The contest, which was first held in August 2018, is jointly hosted with the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Ever growing in popularity, the 2021 and 2023 contests received some 18 applications, the highest number to date.

The Speech Contest continues to receive unwavering support from its partners, the Japan Foundation in Mexico and Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited, as well as More Vino Restaurant.

This year’s contest will take place at the CLL Auditorium on August 23, 2024. The 1st place Category II winner will represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Central America and the Caribbean Japanese Language Education Network (RCCJ ) Speech Contest, which will be held for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago in November 2024.
